When planning a wedding, you sign contracts and pay advances well in advance of the event. An insurance can limit certain losses if an unforeseen situation occurs. The important thing is to find out exactly what a risk cover the policy provided to you; there is no single protection that solves every problem.
What does it mean, concretely, to insure an event?
It is a contract with an insurer. You pay the insurance premium, and the insurer can pay an indemnity if a risk specified in the policy occurs, within its limits and conditions. For a wedding, the discussion may look separately at cancellation or postponement, liability for damages caused to others and protection of certain assets. Don't assume they are all included in the same offer.
What can it cover?
- Cancellation or postponement: a policy that includes this protection can reimburse expenses already paid and not recoverable, such as some advances, if the wedding can no longer take place for an expressly covered reason. Ask what causes are accepted, whether moving the date is included and what expenses can be proven.
- Civil liability: a separate cover may intervene for accidental injuries to persons or property damage produced during the event, when the insured person is legally liable. Check who is listed as insured and whether damage to the venue or guests is included.
- Wedding related goods: some offers may have additional clauses for clothing, gifts, equipment or other items. Ask for the precise list of goods, situations and amounts covered.
These are types of protection to ask, not promises about an automatically available product for private weddings in Romania. An offer for professional organizers may have a different insured and different conditions than a policy that the bride and groom can take out.
What should not be assumed to be covered?
A change of mind, ordinary rain, a change in decor, a vendor's failure to perform or damage to an item does not automatically entitle you to compensation. There may be exclusions, limits, deductibles and notice periods. For example, a Romanian civil liability product for organizers expressly excludes certain pyrotechnic effects. For an outdoor ceremony or fireworks display, ask for a written answer about your specific plans.
A cancellation insurance a the ticket to a show or travel cancellation insurance is not, in itself, insurance for your wedding. Likewise, the wedding planner's liability policy does not automatically replace the bride and groom's financial protection for advances paid to suppliers.
What questions do you ask before you buy?
- Can a private wedding in Romania be insured and who can be insured: the bride and groom, the organizer or another person?
- What situations are covered for cancellation, postponement, injury and damage? What are the exclusions?
- What is the maximum amount paid, what deductible do we bear and what is the price of the policy?
- When does coverage begin? Are deposits paid before the policy was taken out covered?
- What documents and within what time frame should be sent if an incident occurs?
Ask for the offer and product information document before signing. Read together the definition of risks, exclusions and conditions of indemnity. Venue and supplier contracts remain important: they show what happens to advances and who has an obligation to fix a problem.
As a wedding planner, I can help you identify questions relevant to your event and centralize documents. Policy selection and coverage confirmation are done directly with an insurer or an authorized intermediary.
